I usually hit the gym 3 to 4 days a week doing a variety of workouts such as aerobics classes like Body Pump, Zumba or Step class. lf I don’t feel up to driving to the gym on some evenings I pop in my P90X workout video and work out at home especially during winter seasons! I spend about an hour doing aerobics and other times I spend about an hour and a half doing cardio and weight training. I usually do between 20 to 30 minutes of cardio. The elliptical machine is one of my fav cardio machines because it is relaxing, easy to move and fun as opposed to a treadmill. The bike is my least fav cardio workout and I would say the treadmill is my second.
Then I do weights for 30 minutes on my upper body, abs/lower back and the next day I do lower body, abs/lower back but I only do lower body twice a week.
I don’t always do the same exercise routine because I tend to get bored of it plus your body gets too accustomed to it to the point where you can plateau. You will not get new results doing the same routine over and over again. In order to get new and better results, do a variety of workouts to give your body and metabolism a shock to get it working. It would be helpful to get good results on different muscle groups that you haven’t worked out on and when you build muscles it helps to increase your metabolism to burn fat.
With having a full time office job, I find that you tend to sit at your desk for long periods of time but I usually get up every half hour or every hour to walk around, go to the washroom, drop off papers at someone’s desk, etc. On my coffee and lunch breaks I take the stairs 2 or 3 times a day walking up to 7 flights instead of taking the elevator. It definitely does help to give me some energy and getting some exercise throughout the day to stay in shape. It is good to take advantage of the stairs especially if you have one of those days where you are too exhausted to go to the gym and at least you had some exercise and burned calories. You can also do some abs/free weights for 20 minutes when you get home from work. A quick fix is better than not having a workout! So be sure to have an exercise ball to tone up your abs, a few free weights and a workout home video.
Just remember it is okay to miss a day or two of working out at the gym because it is very important to give your body a break and your muscles need a rest to regroup to avoid muscle tissue damage or injury. Hope this blog post has inspired you and motivates you to the goals you would like to achieve!
