Know where to shop to find cool items & to save $$$

Over the years I learned how to shop smart and to watch prices before I make a purchase. When I was in my early 20’s I tended to overspend on clothes and never waited for a good sale. I was impatient and afraid that they wouldn’t have my size or even worse, they’d be out of stock! I have finally come to realize that sometimes you have to take chances and wait for a certain item to go on sale and if they don’t have your size then it just wasn’t meant to be!

Back in those days, I loved buying True Religion jeans at Holt Renfrew where regular prices ran around $200-$300. I now think back at how much money I spent and realize it wasn’t worth paying full price.  If you want the trendy brands hit the outlets where the prices are more reasonable.  You’re likely to find them under $100 if there is special sale which is a bonus! Be open to shopping at the outlets where you can get more out of it for a reasonable price and stay within your budget.

Also, be open to checking out consignment stores since you never know what you could find there.  Depending on the store, you can find some really unique items, like cool vintage pieces or if you’re really lucky, some reasonably priced high end brands.  I have found some pretty cool stuff at a “second hand” store.  I recently bought a small vintage Gucci Anita Bamboo Handle Bag for $160 which was designed back in 2007 and original price was $700! That was an exciting find for me!

I also spotted a cute pair of zebra print Christian Louboutin pumps for only $100 and they are worth $1,000 but unfortunately they weren’t my size.  Consignment stores do sell good condition items that look brand new, and have brand names. Last winter I checked out this awesome consignment store called 7th Heaven in Dundas, Ontario. I bought this brand new handmade knitted grey infinity scarf that I have been searching for a long time and not to mention looks great with my winter wardrobe.

In order for me to save money when it comes to buying a new wardrobe, I go through my closet and drawers to see what I don’t need or wear anymore and downsize my closet. I take my clothes to various consignment stores to sell them and put that money towards new items to refresh my wardrobe.
